About
Hello!
I suppose if you’ve clicked on this page you’re curious to know who I am.
Well, you know my name (see the URL), but what else do you want to know?
I was born in the early 1970′s, I’m married with 2 kids. Originally I grew up in Birmingham, but have spent time all over the UK. Now settled in North Yorkshire.
When I’m not working or being a (rather useless) husband/daddy, I try to get out and about doing stuff. I’m primarily a water baby and am at my happiest when I’m under it – I love swimming, both in pools and open water swimming too, finswimming, freediving (with normal and monofin), spearfishing and surfing. I’ve recently tried sailing and love that too.
Out of the water I love cycle touring and cycling in general, love mountain walking and I also snowboard, but very rarely.
I’m also into photography and usually combine it with the outdoor activities I do, taking underwater photos when I can, or landscape photography too.
I do like geeky things. When I’m not outdoors, I tend to like movies, music, reading and occasionally a little bit of Xbox.
At work I get Cisco kit to talk to each other and cause people problems by using the principle of least access on Firewalls
.
Spiritually I would class myself as a Buddhist. On a trip to Japan in 1990 I realised what inner peace felt like for the first time in a Buddhist temple. Speaking to the monks made me realise where my true path was. Meditation helps me massively, and I’m in constant strife between detachment and my geeky side
I’m also Bipolar – which the things I do help me to control. I don’t get much mania (although buying things I don’t need can be my problem) but my depressions can be serious. But I am controlling it well without medication using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which can only be a good thing, and the daily meditation also means I’m able to pull out of the depressive spiral, even though it can be hard work.
